At Under One Roof, Inc., we believe everyone deserves to age with dignity and grace. That’s why we’re proud to introduce you to The Marvin, a unique and affordable housing program designed especially for older adults.
What is The Marvin?
The Marvin is more than just a housing complex – it is a vibrant community designed with intergenerational connection at its heart. Offering 49 low-income private apartments for older adults, The Marvin is where residents can enjoy the benefits of independent living with a little extra help when needed.
What Makes The Marvin Special?
Each resident at The Marvin has a private apartment and the opportunity to enjoy shared spaces. These include a communal dining room, resident lounges, a library, art and activity rooms, community rooms, and even an outdoor garden area. These spaces foster a sense of community, encourage social interaction, and provide opportunities for residents to remain active and engaged.
Supportive Services
At The Marvin, we understand that everyone has unique needs. Our Resident Services Coordinator is always on hand to help residents navigate their financial and care needs and provide referrals to community resources and partners. We also offer daily activities and programs, including exercise classes, entertainment, cultural programming, and special time with the children of the Marvin’s Children’s Center and teens from the local community.
How is The Marvin Affordable?
The Marvin is made affordable through a combination of government and private funding. This enables us to offer rent and fees based on each resident’s income. In fact, the total maximum monthly rent and fees a resident will pay is currently 30% less than the average one-bedroom apartment in the Norwalk area. This means that some of our residents pay very little or no rent or monthly fees due to their lack of income and/or high medical costs.
Who is Eligible?
To be eligible for The Marvin, applicants must be 62 or older and have income at or below 60% of the area’s median income.
Our goal is to prevent unnecessary and premature institutionalization by providing an alternative that is affordable, supportive, and socially stimulating.
